The button is there to allow you time to park the truck in safe spot before you run it. Newer trucks generally dont have it. But you won't be able to force it to regen without a scan tool unless the truck is requesting it. That usually isn't necessary though. After that you need to make sure that the truck is in neutral. The truck needs to be stationary to have complete control over the conditions the parked regen performs in; this way it can guarantee that. Now, if you are in neutral you obviously do not want the truck rolling into something, so you need to make sure that the parking brake is set.
