Hello all. Yesterday I purchased a like new P1, serial number 231,xxx with a slide dated 11/63. I was originally under the impression that this was a manufacture date, the more I read it looks like a rebuild date. It depends on what type of PP your're looking at. Walther PP's made at Zella-Mehlis for example had internal slide serial numbers. My 1944 PP 32 has the serial number duplicated on the slide, my 1936 PP 22 and 1939 PPK 32 do not. As long as it looks like it's in good condition I wouldn't worry about the serial number.The WWII frame would be steel and to a person not familiar with the WWII P38s, the pistol could be mistaken for a steel framed P1. I have one of these on my belt as I type this. The slide is marked Walther P1 Kal 9mm, 9/82 and with all the military markings except the serial number (there is none).

It is merely a serial number thing. From 1954-1986, all Walther PP and PPK series pistols and parts were made for Walther by Manurhin in France, about 40 miles from the Ulm, Germany factory.
