There's no hiding from the fact that the 43x is a smaller footprint and there's certainly merit in that. It comes down to personal preference. The longer slide and barrel was a worthwhile investment for the added benefits in my case.
But the 43x is a snappy gun even seasoned shooters will say that. Besides training above all, a magwell with a generous front lip and a stippled grip are 2 definite ways to improve your recoil. A stipple job with a stippled double undercut and an accelerator cut is ideal for that vice like grip combination.
