I really want to avoid taking it to the dealer and I came across a potential 'fix' that involves changing the brake light switch.

No. The engine is not throwing any codes. Just the light comes and and then it reads traction control off service stabilitrak. And the car will not start. GMC Mechanic: Josh127.
