Keowee fishing report.
A few days ago I was fortunate enough to go out on Keowee with Guide Charles Townson, who has been fishing Lake Keowee since 1996. Since moving to the lake in 2013 he has fished it about two hundred days a year, and for several years now he has provided the regular reports on this site detailing what the fish are doing from week-to-week.
The river is open to fishing all year for trout, hatchery Chinook salmon, hatchery steelhead and wild steelhead over 24 inches. Use of bait allowed April 22 - Oct. 31 but beginning Nov. 1 anglers may only use lures and artificial flies. In addition to five hatchery trout, two wild trout may be kept daily.The catfish reports continue to be strong on Lake Keowee, even though Guide Sam Jones of Jocassee Charters (864-280-9056) reports that more ten-pound fish are showing up this week than 20 pluses. Keowee is known for its numerous amounts of good eatin' sized channel cats and monster blues; it is also home to a few small flatheads but are hard to target. So, if you can send in some reports to help fellow fishermen out! Lake Keowee is an 18,372-acre Duke Energy cooling reservoir for the Oconee Nuclear Station. Formed by the impoundment of the Little and Keowee Rivers, Lake Keowee has a mean depth of 50 feet and a maximum depth of 155 feet. Bass fishing is one of the most popular activities on the lake; anglers can catch four species of black bass.
