If you see black edge on your LIM gaskets, near the injectors, they haven't been upgraded to aluminum versions (some cheaper knock offs now exist, along with AC Delco ones).

The UIM(upper intake manifold) gasket is the one between the LIM and UIM. The 2.8/3.1 V6 engines are notorious for LIM gasket failure. In a nut shell most GM V-engines have LIM gasket issues. GM just went a little cheap on the gasket design. The UIM gasket is not the issue so much on the 3800 seriesII as it is the UIM plenum itself that fails.
