Always use the category bonus drops when available, there's no penalty or cooldown when using this and it only helps. Before using the boost feature, always get a feel for the event, play 3-4 runs without any boosts and get a feel for the drop rate. It's worth using boost on events with high drop rates.

I was running 23-4 for a while, but went back to the one everyone else is mentioning which is the last story mission. Just running it over and over. With the 3x XP its nice you get 71,400XP per run, and 23-4 you only get 64,200XP. I have farmed LL with this stage for months and the drop rate for the 77 blue is very low. You will mostly just get green gems since there is an equal chance to get 77 green but the most common is just 1 green drop.
