Take the nut off the wire (8 or 10 MM socket) and remove it, and start the truck. The check engine light will come on. If you can read the code it will tell you the intake air heater voltage is low.

I deleted mine and two days later, I had a Check engine light. It was for the air intake heater, so I erased the code, installed a load resistor and yet have the CEL come back on.

It is smoking and hot to the touch (on the brass post and overall). The only other thing to try before buying the sensor is to put it in a heated garage over night (above 50deg.), and see if the ses light comes back on.
