Vehicle - 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 / 5.9L8 / Automatic Transmission / 202k miles My transmission shifts through gears 1-4 seamlessly but when it hits the 5th gear the engine revs up and the transmission drops back to 4th gear. It's acting as though there is not sufficient oil pressure to maintain or hold the 5th gear.The cause: about 100K miles prior, 5th gear had come off. The repair performed involved a thrust washer. The thrust washer came off, went through the gear case and was caught on the magnet on the bottom of the tranny case. When it went through the case, it chiped some teeth and misalighed 5th and the shift fork.Normal position is with the piston up. Pushing the button will push the piston down, or it is supposed to go down when the brake pedal is pushed and truck is running. The arm has two pins holding it, one on either side, you can use a small screwdriver and pop it out.
