From what I've found is you can spoof a scan if there's a scanner connected otherwise it won't do anything. So I think you'd have to trick the system into thinking there's a reader connected, then spoof it. That makes sense, however it won't stop me trying until I've decided to shell out the cash for a reader.

You can backup amiibos, took me like 30-50 mins to make an app for android (specifically my galaxy note 2) to backup a friend's amiibos, select which backed up amiibo to load, and clone it at will on any topaz 512 nfc tag. Yes, I did have to take it out of the box for cloning.
